The City of Albany reaffirms its commitment as a Sanctuary City in light of media reports that more than 100 federal agents, including personnel from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), have been dispatched to the Coast Guard Base in Alameda and are expected to begin arriving as early as Thursday, October 23.

As a Sanctuary City, Albany does not use City resources to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or Customs and Border Protection (CBP) with immigration enforcement.

Know Your Rights Resources

Red Cards from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center are a resource to provide information on peoples’ rights. Red Cards with translations in Spanish and Chinese are available at City facilities: Albany City Hall, the Albany Community Center, and the Albany Senior Center. Find out more at ilrc.org/red-cards-tarjetas-rojas.

Need Assistance?

Community members who witness ICE activity or require immigration-related assistance can contact the Alameda County Immigration Legal and Education Partnership (ACILEP) for rapid response and legal services – ACILEP Hotline: 510-241-4011

Everyone has the right to peacefully protest. However, the City urges community members to avoid direct interaction with federal law enforcement.

The City of Albany is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and equitable community for all individuals. Through its Sanctuary City policy, Albany continues to uphold the values of respect, diversity, and human rights.
