Published on October 06, 2025
On September 18th the Association of Bay Area Government (ABAG) Executive Board approved one amended and three new Priority Conservation Areas or PCAs that City Council nominated on June 2nd of this year.
PCAs are designated geographic areas identified by local jurisdictions and recognized by ABAG as significant to be protected and improved to support the Bay Area’s regional conservation, resilience, and sustainability objectives.
Albany’s four approved PCAs are:
- The Albany Hill Recreation PCA
- The Albany Bay Trail/Waterfront Recreation only PCA
- The Albany Bay Trail/Waterfront Recreation and Climate Resilience PCA and
- The Priority Tree Canopy Area: Street Tree Management PCA
The new and amended PCAs are now eligible to apply for project funding through the PCA Grant Program which is funded through the One Bay Area Grant (OBAG) program and administered by the San Francisco Estuary Partnership. The next call for grant funding proposals is estimated to be released later this month.
Projects that advance PCA Objectives within designated PCAs are eligible for these grants, providing more opportunities to enhance and protect the region’s vital parks, trails, and resources as well as meet Council’s strategic plan goals.
