The Sidewalk Rehabilitation Program (CIP No. 22000) was created following the passing of Measure P1 in 2016 and is currently funded with the Safe and Accessible Sidewalks & Pathways Special Parcel Tax, passed by Albany voters under Measure C in 2024. The Sidewalk Program consists of three components: surveys, repairs, and shaving. The Public Works Department conducts sidewalk repairs on an annual basis, which typically includes removing damaged concrete and sidewalk defects and then pouring back new concrete.
Repair locations currently follow a prioritization criteria reviewed by Albany's Transportation Commission in March 2026. The criteria prioritizes unsafe sidewalks and sidewalks posing accessibility concerns that were identified during the 2025 Comprehensive Sidewalk Survey. This prioritization utilizes a data-driven approach so that repair locations may provide the most benefit to the community at large.
Phase 12 of sidewalk repairs is tentatively scheduled to begin construction in Fall 2026. Sidewalk repair is located at various locations around the City and consists of concrete removal, concrete repair, and as-needed tree work, such as root pruning.
