Between October 14 and December 1, 2025, the UC Berkeley Police Department (UCPD) and the Albany Police Department received multiple reports of vandalism involving permanent marker, spray paint, and stickers at University Village and nearby locations within the City of Albany. The agencies conducted a joint investigation into the incidents.

The vandalism included messages expressing opposition to, and advocating violence against, Zionism, Israel, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan.

As a result of the investigation, UCPD identified a suspect, Sean Ceballos, and submitted the case to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for review. On December 16, 2025, the District Attorney’s Office filed a felony vandalism charge after determining that the estimated cost of cleanup exceeded $7,800.
