The City of Albany currently maintains approximately 30 centerline miles of roads representing five million square feet of pavement. The Marin Avenue Rehabilitation Project consists of various improvements on Marin Avenue from Cornell Avenue to the City of Albany east limit (near Tulare Avenue).

The project started as a paving project in November 2020 based on the results of the 2019 Pavement Management Technical Assistance Program report under the City’s Annual Streets Rehabilitation Program. During design, it developed to include sidewalk repair, improvements to stormwater capture, new traffic striping, and enhanced pedestrian crossings in addition to rehabilitating the pavement and associated curb ramps.

To accommodate East Bay Municipal Utility District’s water main replacement, the Marin Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation Project was divided into two phases. Phase 1 was successfully completed in Summer 2023 between Cornell Avenue and Key Route Boulevard and coordinated with construction of the Ohlone-Masonic Improvements Project.

The Marin Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation Project - Phase 2 will rehabilitate the pavement and associated curb ramps, repair sidewalks, improve stormwater capture, install new traffic striping, and enhance pedestrian crossings between Key Route Boulevard to the City of Albany east limit (near Tulare Avenue). In addition, intersection streetlighting will be upgraded, improvements will be made to the existing traffics signals and to signage, and a new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon will be installed at the Ventura Avenue crosswalk.

The Marin Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation Project - Phase 2 is scheduled to take place between September 2025 and extend through 2026. Construction will consist of several stages, starting with curb ramp and stormwater improvements. Pavement rehabilitation and traffic striping will be performed during the final stage in 2026.
